going to Egypt (on a tour & a cruise). have heard the vague "women wear loose garments" but would like a little more definition. knee length shorts ok for men & women? presume shoulders need covering? on a Nile cruise, is a swim suit acceptable on board? thanks!

I would wear pants and a long sleeve shirt. You will stick out like a sore thumb if you wear shorts and a tank top and get lots of unwanted attention. Plus it is so hot that you want to be covered. At the beach a swim suit is acceptable.

While on shore in Egypt women are expected to dress "modestly", whereas on the Nile cruise boat you can wear pretty much what you want. On the cruise we took some of the women were even sunbathing topless around the pool and no one seemed to care.

What Kate said except I would strike 'stick out like a sore thumb' and substitute 'look like a floozy idiot', even in the tourist areas.
I have no idea about cruises.
