Only enough time in Budapest for one of Rick's longer day trips. Mid-fifties couple interested in travel/destination scenery and variety/uniqueness. No desire to sip a vino in Eger but there may be more to it... don't know much about Pecs either. Please share your favorite and help me pick!
I have never been to either but like you have been researching it. We are planning on Eger on our upcoming trip, and are still deciding whether we will do it as a day trip or start there after catching a train on our day of arrival from the U.S. In my opinion Pecs is too far for a day trip, and Eger is a little long too so it's not ideal. But, based upon Rick's description and the photos online on Flickr, it looks like a really nice place to visit. The fact that the area is known for wine was not the reason why we want to go to Eger. I think there is plenty to do there and it looks like beautiful town.
Eger is more than vino. We don't drink but had a great short visit to Eger (we did stay overnight). Interesting history and town for wandering.
