Eger, Hungary -- Hotel Recommendations?

We will be spending a night in Eger when traveling between Budapest and Kocise, Slovakia and was looking for comments on hotels that folks have stayed at.

I have checked the prior threads and also looked at the RS and LP guidebooks. What hotels have people stayed at and what were the pros/cons. Also, please indicate if the hotel was central or someways out of town.

Lastly, has anyone taken the bus between Budapest and Eger? If so, where did you catch it in Budapest?

When are you going? I will be in Eger for one night the first week of July and staying at Hotel Korona. If you are going after that date, I will let you know what it is like. It is centrally located, but the reviews on Trip Advisor are from 2005 so the rest is up in the air.

I will be happy to let you know what I find out. Also will be in Budapest (though not by bus) and will be staying at the Hotel Erzsebet so I will let you know how that is.

We stayed at the Romantik and it was certainly acceptable but I'd recommend the Senator House right down on Dobo Square. It's not much farther from the bus station and a much nicer setting. Both are within fairly easy walking distance of the bus station.

We took the bus from Budapest to Eger. I believe we left from the Napstadion (sp?) station which was on the Red Line metro. Very convenient. When we returned to Buda from Eger we got back on the metro for one stop to the train station.

Enjoy Eger and be careful when visiting the Valley of Beautiful Women. The 'Bulls Blood, and song and dance can sneak up on you pretty quickly. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info Jim.

I am about to confirm the Senator Haz as it is well recommended by LP. 125 euros for a 4 person apartment.

Good to hear about the bus - it seems like it drops you directly in town v/s the train. Though we have to take the train when leaving as we are headed to Slovakia and then into Ukraine.

Eger is a great little town and you'll enjoy it. DO NOT MISS the Valley of Beautiful Women wine caves, tho. Our visit to the caves is a memory we'll never forget. We still laugh about it. Good choice on the Senator House, too. Great location. And, enjoy Budapest. We loved it, too.
