Eastern Europe Trip

I think I have come close to finalizing my trip plans. I will be travelling with a Eurail Global Pass as I won a 15 day 2 month pass in a contest. Therefore I won't take any budget airlines as I want to use this pass as much as I can! I do realize I will have to pay extra to go through the Czech Republic as it isn't covered.

April 29-Arrive in Munich-Leave for Nurnberg
April 29-May 3 Nurnberg (Day trips to Bamberg and Regensberg)
May 3-May 7 Prague (DT Kutna Hora/ maybe Plzen? I love beer!)
Night train to Krakow
May 8-May 11 Krakow-DT to Aushwitz
Night train to Budapest
May 12-16 Budapest (DT's to Szentendre and Eger)
Night train to Brasov
May 17-19 Brasov - DT to Bran
May 19-21 Sibiu
May 21 Sighisoara
May 22 Night train to Vienna
May 23-27 Vienna (DT to Bratislava and Melk? If time allows)
May 27-May 31 Munich-DT to Augsburg-any other suggestions? I have been to Fussen and seen the castles and have been to Dachau before. Is it doable to see the Alps and hike in late May?

I know Romania seems out of the way and a bit rushed but I really want to see it.

I am also concerned about Night trainsin Eastern Europe but have read on a few posts that it is not that bad. I will be travelling alone. Is it expensive to get my own sleeper?

Kate,

I wouldn't stay that long in Pargue. I think Prague can bee seen in 2 days, the most.
While in Romania: You only need a half day to visit Bran.Depending when you get there, you need just a day. While in Brasov, go to Poiana Brasov, take the bus or taxi. Poiana Brasov is a resort up in the mountains and the road up there is wonderful. For some people might look dangerous , but I loved it.There is a cool authentic Romanian food restaurant called Sura Dacilor, you might want to check out.

You're planning relies too much on night trains to save time. Few people can get a good night's sleep on a night train. For such an ambitious trip, I would recommend limiting yourself to 1-2 night trains. That sleep that you miss will catch up on you in unpleasent ways.

As for the Alps questions- yes and no. Some of the trails will be choked with mud from the snow melt-off, but you should be OK at lower altitudes.
