Eastern Europe: OK for solo female traveler?

Hi,

I'm trying to plan a 10-12 day holiday for October & am considering Budapest, Vienna, Prague & Berlin. But I will be travelling alone. And though I have done so in the past (to London, Paris & around Italy) and loved it ... I'm wondering if these cities are safe enough to do so.

My other top trip contender is Spain.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Opinions?

Thank you!

All the cities you mentioned are significantly safer than Chicago. Just be aware of pickpockets. Violent crime is very rare.

I agree with the poster above. The cities you memtion are probably safer than some in Italy. Of course you always have to be prudent.

I have not been to Berlin but we thought Vienna, Budapest, and Prague worked very well together. If you do these, also consider Cesky Krumlov and/or Bratislava.

Spain is wonderful but no longer inexpensive. When you go to Spain, the 12 day holiday will go by very rapidly. If you are asking about safety, it is the same as the others.

I travelled solo in May through Germany, Czech, Poland, Hungary, Romania and Austria and encountered no problems. I felt safer there than in Italy and France (not that i didnt feel safe there, but I felt that the pickpockets and street vendors were mkore active in Rome and Paris).

The touristy old towns in the major cities in the countries I saw were very active by tourists and police were everywhere. In romania where there were less tourists I was approached by more locals who were very helpful.

I have been to all of the cities that you mention (except Berlin) on my own. All are perfectly fine for a solo female traveler. Go for it.
