Planning trip in April/May,2011 to Prague, Vienna, Saltzburg. Would it be better to fly into Munich, then rail to Vienna and on to Saltzburg and back to Munich. Only have 8 days and wondered if I should eliminate Munich and fly in and out of Prague. Any help is appreciated. Wandering Angel

for 8 days I would stick with just Prague and Vienna. I would fly into Prague and out of Vienna.

The best way to do this itinerary would be open jaw. Fly into Prague and then do Prague > Vienna > Salzburg > Munich. Fly home from Munich. That way you'd have no back tracking. I wouldn't plan on any sightseeing in Munich; you won't have the time.

i visited these places last year and indeed 8 days is not enough. depending on what you like you have to drop at least 1 place, either Munich or Prague because they're the 2 ends, but it'll be a tough call since all these places are really cool and if you can't see them this time you should think about next time.
