We're considering a trip driving the eastern Adriatic coast: something like Dubrovnik to Bari. Can anyone recommend where to fly in and out of, best sites to see, best towns in 1 or 2 weeks?
Both the Croatian and Italian Adriatic coasts would be a lot to cover in 1 week, so consider doing it over 2 weeks. Flying into Dubrovnik and back from Bari or Rome would be a good option, but price of flights might dictate other options. For the Dubrovnik-Bari option, you could rent a car from Uniline, a Croatian rental company, at the end of your visit to Dubrovnik, drive to Split and then to Rovinj with a stop in Plitvice Lakes park (also a good one-night stop). Uniline charges no drop off fee on rentals of at least 3 days. Take the Venezia Lines hydrofoil from Rovinj to Venice (runs about 3 times weekly in season) and pick up a car for your Italian drive there. I'm not that familiar with the east coast of Italy, so maybe someone else can recommend good stops along the way to Bari. My option also assumes you cannot take a car rented in Italy into Croatia. If that's possible, you could rent and return in Bari to avoid the drop-off fee, and take it to Dubrovnik by overnight ferry. If you can only go for 1 week, then just do Dubrovnik to Venice and fly back from there, or skip Venice and fly back from Zagreb, dropping off the car there.
