Hello,
My husband and I arrive in Athens 4/24/11, Easter Sunday. What can we expect over the Easter Holiday? Will most stores/restaurants be closed? Thanks
They'll be closed on Sunday. Be sure to have all your hotel, car, ferry and plane reservations confirmed well in advance. This is a very busy time in Greece and everything will be booked solid.
Christine Easter is still very much a family holiday in Greece, and is a bigger deal than Christmas (although this is changing.) Even so restaurants, and some shops, in areas which get a lot of tourists will be open over the holiday. So in Plaka, the area under the Acropolis, almost all of the restaurants will be open. We've never had problems finding somewhere to eat over Easter even on small islands, although Lee is right to advise making sure you have accommodation and travel booked. We've certainly had problems with both of these when caught unawares by Easter. Alan
Thank you for the advise.
