Dubrovnik-where to stay?

does anyone have any hotel or apartment recommendations in Dubrovnik? What side of town to stay in? or north or south of the walls? we wont have a car, will be staying 6 nights and have two teens with us; so want a little bit of space (maybe access to patio or garden?) Any recommendations are welcome!

I stayed at Jadranka Benussi's apartments a couple of weeks ago and would highly recommend them. The 2 larger apartments share a terrace. Location is about a 5 minute walk from the Pile gate. The Pile neighborhood is much nicer than the neighborhood just south of the old city. Jadranka is listed in Rick's guidebook. She will require a 20% deposit, but sending it by Western Union was not expensive (I paid $15). Send me a private e-mail if you want more information.

My husband and I were in Dubrovnik last month and stayed at apartments Amoret and were very satisfied. There are apartments in two different buidlings. We had a room in the building that had a terrace on the second floor which was for everyone. The website is www.dubrovnik-amoret.com We did not have a car either. We hired Pepo Klaic for a day tour. We went to Montenegro. He is very nice and quite informative. His e-mail is [email protected] Both the above apartments and Pepo are in RS book on Croatia. Ashley

We used the sight, Dubronvik apartment source and got an apartment within walking distance of Old Town (to the south.) We adored our apartment and it was really reasonably priced. We were also close to a public beach. Dubronvik is a hilly town and climbing stairs just about anywhere you stay is going to be an issue. I would tho, highly recomment the south side of Old Town.

We stayed at Hotel Uvala in the Lapad area..it was off season so an excellent deal.
the bus was very easy to take into town about a 10 min. drive at most. The breakfast was extensive and quite delicious.

I took a photo of the room and bathroom and placed it in my Dubrovnik photo album on our personal travel journal website. If you would like to check it out ..it's ourpassportstamps.com and then go into Photos...also in there where we've been section is our blog from that time, videos of Dubrovnik, Mostar and Montenegro along with a private driver recommendation for Mostar and Montenegro day trips.

Hope this helps....
