We are planning a trip to Dubrovnik and Venice and needed transportation, either bus, train, car, etc. We thought of stopping a couple times to break up the trip... Say Zadar and later Rovinj. We have 12 days to complete the entire trip excluding flights from SFO. Any recommendations?

I'm a fan of the website Rome2Rio (http://www.rome2rio.com/) to get ideas about transportation options. We are making a similar trip up the coast of Croatia and are renting a car for that part of the trip. Our plan is to pick up the car in Split and drop off in Zagreb.
