Will be flying into in Dubrovnik in the middle of May and plan on renting a villa or apartment. Would probably spend a couple of days seeing Dubrovnik and than driving both north to Split and later south into Montenegro. Does this itinerary sound possible in eight days?
What about taking a daytrip to Montenegro from Dubrovnik, and then driving the 4 hours from Dubrovnik to Split and flying out from there? It would save some backtracking. Otherwise, you could drive to Split and take the ferry back to Dubrovnik for a change of pace and scenery.
Thanks, the day trip to Montenegro sounds doable. Taking the ferry to Split also sounds like a good option. Do you know how long the ferry trip is and how often it runs?
Sorry, I don't know, but try a search on this site where others have suggested good websites with that type of information. (http://www.croatiatraveller.com)
You can also check out the ferryline's website www.jadrolinija.hr--you can look at timetables for your particular dates.
If you do drive as far north as Split try to squeeze in a day/night a little farther to Plitvice lakes/Falls. Amazing place not to be missed.
I took the ferry from Hvar to Dubrovnik. I thought it would be a change of pace and it was for the first hour. After that, it's a long day stuck on an old boat. Most people crowded the benches to sleep. The ferry ride was about 9 am to 4 pm, I think. It was an all day event with not much going on.
