I hope to travel from Dubrovnik to Sarajevo for a day or so in August. Can anyone recommend the best way via public transportation? I have heard that there's a beautiful train ride from Ploce (Croatia) to Sarajevo, but not sure the best way to get to Ploce from Dubrovnik. Any advice/ hints are helpful. Many thanks!
The Libertas Dubrovnik bus schedule shows 13 buses per day from Dubrovnik to Ploce, but it only lists departure times. There's a 05:00 bus that might get you to Ploce for the 06:05 train and a 15:30 bus that would likely get you to Ploce for the 17:00 train. Deutsche Bahn website shows only the 2 trains from Ploce to Sarajevo. The Libertas schedule also shows 4 buses per day from Dubrovnik to Sarajevo, departing at 08:00, 13:00, 15:15 and 22:30.
Hey, we just did this route recently and went by the Libertas bus. We left Dubrovnik at 7am went to Mostar for 4 hours and caught the 4pm bus to Sarajevo(there is a later bus also). This was a nice trip. The old town of Mostar is a 10 min walk from the bus station. Beware the bus station toilets are the "squatty pottys". So wait and go to a cafe! Both legs of the trip were very beautiful and scenic. I noticed the train tracks most of the way so pretty much the same route. Maybe it's not necessary to go to Polce afterall. Sarajevo is nice also!
Susan, can you recommend a bus company to look at for the trip from Mostar to Sarajevo?
We're in Dubrovnik now and would love to stop in Mostar on our way to Sarajevo (in a couple of days). Also, are there lockers to leave luggage in Mostar while you walk around? We're two young women, is it ok for us to walk around alone? or is there a tour you would recommend?
Thanks so much!
