Dubrovnik to Rovinj

I have all day Sunday and Monday to get from Dubrovnik to Rovinj. I will be driving. How long of a car trip is it? Where would you suggest I stop for Sunday night? Thanks.

Hi Harry, For driving times/routes, I like to use the following website: www.viamichelin.com We took a trip to the area a few years ago and spent a night in Split, which we really liked. The next morning we got up early, drove to Plitvice National Park where we spent about 1/2 day, and then carried on to the Istrian Peninsula. We didn't travel as far as to Rovinj that night, as we were staying in Opatija, but Rovinj isn't that much farther. If we hadn't gone to Plitvice we would have just spent the day taking the slow road and winding through a bunch of coastal towns, particularly Zadar. I imagine the scenery is gorgeous.

Thanks so much for your response. In looking at the driving instuctions it appears that trying to go from Split to Rovinj via the Plitvice Lakes in one day is a lot of driving time and not much visiting time so I think we best do one or the other. Not sure whether we sill do Split or Plitvice but I'm sure we will love either that we chose. Thanks again.

Split is a very compact city. All you need is several hours within the palace walls. Plitvice Lakes deserves a day. In order to fully appreciate the beauty of the place you need time to hike the trails. There is a lot of walking involved. I am ambitious so I would do both! I loved Rovinj. I am so jealous!

Last summer, we did PL early in the morning, finished by 2, and were in Split by 6:30. Split is a very compact town. We spent 2 days. Nice places to eat by the Adriatic, and the palace is interesting. It's about 4-5 hrs by autobahn, and longer by the coast road from Split to PL. I'd go to Split, and have a place to stay near PL. Do PL first thing in the morning and don't do what we did - PL on Croatian National Day - whew, CROOOOOWDED!!! PL to Rovinj would be 3-4 hours I think.

If I were choosing between Split and PL, PL is the winner. Split is interesting, but not a world heritage spot. PL is one of the most amazingly beautiful places my family has ever been, and we've been to all the big US parks except Big Bend and Glacier. DO NOT MISS PL.
