I'm going to be traveling from Dubrovnik to Rome May 14 and am not sure of the best way to get there. I check out this website ,www.jadrolinija.hr, but it says that there are no ferries from Dubrovnik to Bari that day. Any Suggestions would help.
Unfortunately, Jadrolinija only has a couple of ferry crossings per week in May (low season) and Azzurra Line has almost no crossings in May. If you must travel on May 14, your options are limited. Flying would be fastest, but likely very expensive. You could look into a bus to Venice and train from there, but that would a VERY long trip and probably not practical. If you have the flexibility to adjust your travel day, that might be your best option.
That's a tricky route Daniel. Buses and trains are both a long trip with poor schedules. The train runs in the middle of the night, and most of the buses are early. If you can't find a ferry (that day looks pretty bleak),I would try to find a flight.
If you can't find a direct flight, see if you can get one into Venice, and Ryanair has two cheap flights a day to Rome: 8Am and 7PM I believe, as well as good train service, and an affordable overnight train that leaves around 11:30Pm, and arrives 7AM..
Car rental one way drop off fees range from from $200-500, and Slovenia requires you to purchase a 35EUR sticker to drive on freeways, in addition to tolls. Pretty steep, so probably a last resort. But the drive is easy, mostly freeway, and is a great deal faster than the bus or train if time is more important than money, and you can't find a flight.
There seem to be lots of ferry options the next day though! Best of luck.
Daniel - If you must be in Rome on May 14 and cost of flying is prohibitive, this may work for you. Blue Lines has daily overnight ferries from Split to Ancona in May. You could take a bus to Split, walk the few minutes to the ferry dock and then take a train from Ancona to Rome. You'd need to leave Dubrovnik around noon one day and wouldn't get to Rome until around noon the next, but cost would be about the same as going via Bari.
