I'm trying to figure out a way to get from Dubrovnik to Plitvice National Park in August. Cost-effective is key, but not so key we want to ride a bus the whole way or anything like that. Does anyone have advice on either flying from Dubrovnik to (??) and renting a car; or has anyone driven this stretch in a rental car starting in Dubrovnik? I'll also gladly take any vital tips on Dubrovnik or Plitvice!

I took the ferry to Split - stopping off in Hvar for a few days, but you could go straight through - and then a bus to Plitvice.

we drove from Plitvice to Dubrovnik. takes about 8 hours. roads are good. freeway was not quite complete in 9/2009 so some time spent on smaller roads. we stopped in Ston to see the wall on the way and in another small town for lunch and to take photos as we passed thru Bosnia. we still had time to stroll the stradun that evening in Dubrov. i loved Plitvice it was originally my reason for visiting Croatia but everywhere we went was wonderful. we stayed at House Samardzic. it was great. if you stay in a sobe in Dubrovnik old town be aware that you may be schlepping luggage up steep narrow stairs. not that much of a problem tho. enjoy your trip!
