Dubrovnik or Cavtat overnight before airport??

Hello: We are a group going to Croatia for 2 1/2 weeks in Sept. 2009. We planned 5 nights at the end in Dubrovnik (Ploce Gate area). Considering Dubrovnik is a fair distance from the airport.....we were wondering if it is more practical and interesting to spend the last night in Cavtat? In that way, we would be closer to the airport (we have a 6:05 am flight out). Or, should we just stay put in Dubrovnik and rely on transportation? shuttle? private driver?....to the airport. Also, is Cavtat worthy of a visit? Any suggestions? THANKS!

Dober Dan Carrie

while cavtat appears closer, I think it's farther off the main road which would add more driving time.
and perhaps hard to get a taxi.

If you are on Croatia Airlines, there should be a shuttle to the airport at the Pile gate bus stop area...but double check on that...

otherwise on our website I have info on private driver service that we used to Mostar and Montenego.

you could contact them about a ride, they have a mini van.

our website is

ourpassportstamps.com

you will want to go into where we've been section and in the photo section there's pictures of Dubrovnik and cheap eats suggestions.. the bonus albums show an assortment of items too.

if you would like a copy of our sights to see list for Dubrovnik that we put together let me know. We also have them for Split, Korcula, Hvar and Zagreb if you are going there.

I would spend your last night in Dubrovnik as opposed to Cavtat--it isn't really closer enough to the airport to justify sacrificing a day in Dubrovnik. Your hotel should be able to arrange a ride to the airport, either through a trusted cab company, a shuttle they have used, or a brother-in-law that just happens to have a van...In case you're wondering, we ended up arriving at the airport via choice number three, and it was just fine.

By the way, don't postpone picking up souvenirs till you're at the airport. The shops there have nothing worth buying unless you consider T shirts with incredibly vulgar English language slogans the perfect remembrance of Croatia!!

It took us about 30 mins on the airport bus to reach the airport from the main bus station in Dubrovnik. You're going at an excellent time btw! Croatia in september is wonderful, although it's wonderful any time of the year, but most of the crowds are gone by then. Enjoy your trip!
