Dubrovnik - do I tip the private day guide I have hired?

Hello all, We are currently in Dubrovnik and have hired a guide to take us on daytrips on Wednesday and Friday (Mostar and Montenegro). I have never hired a private guide before. Should we tip him? Do we buy his meals on our daylong excursions? Thanks!
