My husband and I will be driving from Dubrovnik to Ljubjana, and we are babes in the woods with this stuff. Has anyone done this, and if so, could you give us some tips on what to see, where to spend the night, tolls, and approximately how long it will take to dive the 402 miles?
You can answer your last question in about 5 minutes on the Google Map car trip travel time link, 2nd link when you get to this topic http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/30357/bplease-read-this-before-posting-your-itinerary-questionb.html
Check viamichelin.com for the route. It's more accurate. And will give tolls, etc. - MOst of the tolls are covered by the Slovenia freeway sticker your rental car will probably have - ask.
Garmin GPS are up to date for the area. We just came back. Compusa has a Garmin Nuvi 270 with Europe maps for $121.98 with shipping right now (refurbished).
Not sure on good places to stay for the night. But definitely keep the car for a quick trip down to Postojna, Skotcjan, and Prdejama (1hr from Ljubljana). It's well worth it! :)
Have fun!
