Driving BMWs in E. Europe

I hear that BMWs and Mercedes are the top stolen cars in Europe. We are picking our new BMW in Munich and taking it on our 3 week trip around E.Europe, Germany, Austria, Switz. It will have an alarm. Should we be worried, cautious, or just enjoy our trip?...

Germany, Austria ans Switzerland should present no more problems that a new BMW would create back home.

East Europe however is a different kettle of fish. In East Europe I would use extreme caution.

Having stayed with families in Austria, Hungary and Czech Republic, I note that they don't park their cars on the street at night. They rent a garage.
So I would be extra cautious where you park. Always ask a native where you can safely park overnight.

We returned on May 22nd from a BMW pickup in Munich. We drove through Croatia and Slovenia returning back to Munich. Eastern Europe is fine to drive in. Like anyplace else you need to observe common sense travel safety rules. We took care to park the car in a garage or secure area in cities at night. You never want to leave items of value visable in a parked car at tourist sights not matter what type of car. The BMW forum www.bimmerfest.com has a section on European Delivery. If you haven't found it there is lots of information. Enjoy your trip it will be great!
