Direct bus from Elbasan, Albania to Orhid, Macedonia.

Direct bus from Elbasan, Albania to Orhid, Macedonia.

I need last minute advice about taking a furgon (or long distance bus) from ELBASAN, ALBANIA to ORHID, MACEDONIA. I know the bus leaves from TIRANA, and the road to MACEDONIA passes through ELBASAN so I'm hoping to catch it in ELBASAN and go all the way to ORHID.

I don't want to go to POGADEC, or take an expensive TAXI from the border. There must be a bus connecting TIRANA and SKOPJE, and I'd like to hop on board that bus in ELBASAN and get off at ORHID, if possible.

Please let me know ASAP, because I have to leave tomorrow (and I just found out today).

Thanks.

I think if you are searching for this type of information you are in the wrong forum. Have you tried the lonely planet's thorntree forum. You will have a lot more luck posting your question there.

When we were there last year, it was very difficult getting any information on transportation in Albania. I do not believe there is a bus from Tirana to Skopje. We ended up taking a furgon from outside the soccer stadium (near the Sheraton) in Triana and went to Pogradec. Note these furgons only seem to leave in the morning around 9 with nothing else after than.

We just walked between Albania and Macedonia (100-200 mts) - and this has to be one of the prettiest border crossings I gone through. We were going to wait for the bus from Ohrid to the border but found a cabbie who had just dropped some folks at the border - so negotiated with him and were happy as it would have been another hour before we would have gotten the bus.

Good luck on getting to Ohrid

This information might be outdated, but as of several years ago, due to an uprising between the Macedonian government and ethnic Albanian rebels, all direct ground public transportation between Albania and Kosovo to Macedonia stopped at the borders. If you wanted to continue farther, you had to exchange buses at the border. Private vehicles and chartered transportation were exempted. Like I said, this is PROBABLY not true anymore, but I can't be certain.
