Daytrips from Positano

Where exactly in the town of Positano do we catch a SIMA bus to the town of Amalfi? also where do we get on the boat to Capri? ( in August?)

Try posting this on the Italy section and you will get responses better. The bus to Amalfi is at the top of the town on the main road, you walk up to the intersection where the local town bus is, turn right and go up the hill. We didn't take the boat to Capri from there but would assume it is at the foot of the town if I remember correctly.

There's a 2nd bus stop in Positano, right at the end of Via Cristiforo Colombo where it meets the main road. It's listed as Sponda in Rick Steves guidebook. If you're staying in a hotel at the bottom of town, that will be your best option for buses to Amalfi (and also for buses to/from Sorrento). Boats to Capri leave from the dock at the bottom of town. It's to the right of the beach area. Once you get down near the beach area, it's easy to spot.

Much more fun to take a boat to Amalfi instead of a bus. Just go down to the Positano beach and you'll spot the boat area - same place where you catch the boats to Capri. Once in Amalfi, be sure to take the short bus ride up to Ravello. Ravello is probably our favorite day trip from Positano. The buses are right at the Amalfi waterfront.

If you do take ferry from Amalfi make sure ahead of ferry schedules. We missed the last ferry of the day eventho it was only evening.

Debbie, As Frank mentioned, the boats to Capri depart from the dock on the right-hand side of the beach (as you're looking towards the ocean). There are a number of small ticket booths at the foot of the dock where you can purchase your tickets. If you'd like to have a look at the location where the boats depart, go to This Website, click on "Webcam Positano" and then the image on the right. The image is more-or-less "real time", so you may be able to see the boats arriving and departing. BE SURE to research the boat times, so that you don't miss the last boat from Capri! Happy travels!
