Day trips from Ljubljana to Škocjan Caves

It appears that the Ljublijana TI has a trip to the Skocjan Caves and the Lipica Stud Farm only on Saturdays. The cost is 60 Euros per person ($90.00-yikes). Does anyone know of a cheaper and easier way to do this? The bus to Skocjan sounds very iffy per Rick's 2007 book. Thanks!

We rented a car for one day to see the caves. I think the price was around $40 for the rental and the driving was pretty straightforward.
