My plans are only the castle & the old town, Do you think it is enough for one day. any tips. Mrs. Pilar Harrietha Toronto, ON Canada

I will be visiting Bratislava as a day trip from Vienna. I don't know the rules of the rail pass you hold, but train tickets to Bratislava are 12 Euros return. I get the impression Bratislava isn't too interesting and I'm sure a day will be sufficient to see what you want to.

Doing the castle and the old town would be an enjoyable day trip. We did it as a day from Budapest and had a great time. The train station is an easy tram ride to the old town. I can't comment on museums or anything, basically we just wandered, enjoyed the city, had lunch, went up to the castle, and went back to Budapest. I'm sure the cost for the train would be minimal, I think that we paid something in the neighborhood of $10 a person return tickets that I bought the day of travel.

If I recall, it was 2.5 hours. We left about 9:30AM, toured the city, then were back in Budapest about 6:00 and watched the sunset from the Fishermans Bastion. My favorite night in Budapest! Admittedly, we were not in Bratislava very long, but we did get a good feel for the city and had a fun time. The castle was closed for renovations, so that only took about 30 minutes with the walk up, stop to see the view, and come back down. If you toured it, I suppose it would add at least another hour.

If you are in Vienna go to the tourist office in the city centre and ask for directions to the bus terminal for Bratislavia. It is cheap and easy and you are let off in the heart of Bratislavia.
