Day trip from Budapest

My wife and I are going to Budapest for 5 nights in November, and wanted to get some suggestions for a day trip. We're considering Eger, as it's relatively close and we're both wine lovers, but were also considering Pecs, although it';s a bit farther away. Any recommendations for other places, or thoughts on our two choices? We've never been to Budapest, and only want to spend one day away from the city. Thanks,
Jan

if you want to take a slow day then half day in szentendar is fine. if you feel you have enough energy to do more then get you can visit ezstergom. you can get a bus from szentendar. there is more to see in ezstergom so you should try do it first.

We were in same situation this summer and also thought we would take a day trip to Eger, but found we did not want to spend the travel time. We "settled" for train to Szentendre and spent a lovely afternoon strolling there; you can always do the full Danube bend. Lots to do in Budapest to more than fill 4 and a fraction full days. Not sure if this is a valid answer to your question.

We did the trip to Egar. If you have a car, it's about 1.5 hrs from Budapest. Also make sure to go to the Museum of Terror and the Park of Monuments. There are also Roman Ruins in Budapest that we only found out by looking in our "Budapest from the air" book from Alexandra bookstore near the Opera house. One unmentioned fun place - the commie-themed pizza parlor Marxim just north of Castle Hill down a small side street. Pizza was good. Commie kitsch was also fun, although not laid on thick enough for me. We stayed in Budapest 5 nights. Also the market hall is not to be missed.

Pecs is really wonderful, but I think it is too far for a day trip. I agree with the choices along the Danube bend. However, you can easily fill all five days with activities in Budapest itself.
