Since I cannot find a day trip to Medjugorje from either Split or Dubrovnik (Viator has a trip on Saturdays only and we have a flight home on that day), I searched and found a bus from Split to Medjugorje that will get me to Medjugorje in time to explore and see town on our own. I was hoping to find buses from Medjugorje leaving early evening for Dubrovnik but could not locate such a service (I know there's one that leaves about 6-ish the next morning and wouldn't want to take that. Are there any other agencies besides Viator doing tours? I read somewhere that tours to Medjugorje are offered from both cities, but could not find anything on Google searches except multiple-day tours. We do not need a private tour. Group travel is fine as long as we will have the day to really see Apparition Hill, the town church and other pertinent sites. Any ideas here? We prefer NOT to rent a car and take a rental over the border into Bosnia. Seems silly that there would not be public buses going back to Dubrovnik. Not everyone going out there in the morning wants to stay over at night, or is this a deliberate set up so that one has to remain there overnight and utilize more of the town's services?
Finding bus schedules and such in that part of the world can be a little tricky sometimes. Balkan Viator is the best website I've found, it's at http://www.balkanviator.com/en/bus It looks like there are indeed afternoon buses from Medjugorje to Dubrovnik, shouldn't be a problem.
We went to Medjugorje in conjunction with a daytrip to Mostar from Dubrovnik. We used cheapdubrovniktours.com and were extremely pleased. We ended up with a group of 6 so needed a bigger vehicle but I think they will do it more cheaply with a car for fewer people. We set our own timelines, the driver willing to show us what we wanted to see in Mostar and then going to Medjugorje, staying as long as we wanted while the driver went to park elsewhere. Excellent driver, knew a "back road" for the border crossing. We did our research ahead of time and all felt like we got a very good experience.
We actually found a good way to do this we arranged for a pick-up in Split and can have the day in Medjugorje and drop-off in Dubrovnik for €250 for our party (2 people). This works out well for us as it would have been a travel day anyhow. Our driver is English-speaking and is also from Mostar, I believe.
