Hi,
I need info on traveling to Dagestan (Makhachkala), and have so far found zero travel books, etc. that cover that destination. Am looking for detailed info, as much as possible, so if someone would like to correspond off-site with me about this, that'd be great too. Any help/advice here or elsewhere would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Try this site and follow links. There is also a Wikipedia page on Dagestan
Paul,
Thanks for the URL, but it presents "page not found". Can you check the exact address?
Thanks.
John:
The Fielding "travel guide" The World's Most Dangerous Places, 2000 edition, has about ten pages on travel in Degastan. From the book: "Degastan is like Austria with gunships or Scotland with terrorists". Most of chapter is about ethnic strife in the country and Russian incursion in the late 1990s. Hopefully things have changed. Email if you can't find any information; I can photocopy the pages.
Geor
Thanks for the tip. I can only find Fielding's 1997 edition, which does not have Dagestan (at least not in the table of contents). So, yes, can you please copy me those 10 pages. I'm wondering if 2000 would be an accurate view of that area today... ? Wish there were something more up-to-date.
Thanks,
John
ps have you been there?
