Cultural things in/near Kudsadasi Not Ephesus

We are on a cruise in July which will have one full day in Kusadasi. Most of the tours from the ship go to Ephesus, and we don't want to go there, nor do we want to shop. Since we only have one day in Turkey we would like to get a feel for the place. Are there any cultural places in and around Kusadasi, or nice villages with a good place for lunch anyone can suggest? Any short tours (< 5 hrs)you know of straight off the boat?
Thanks.

Lisa - I just returned from Kusadasi - My 31st time in the city. Ephesus - where John The Baptist walked is one of the most "cultural" places in the world so - If you don't want to see that I can't suggest anything else in Kusadasi for you. The shopping is the best in Europe because the Turks don't have the Euro BUT - You've indicated shopping isn't for you. That leaves The Restaurants and beaches, which will be in every other port you visit.
As for "getting a feel" for Kusadasi, the two significant things it offers are Ephesus and Shopping - The Turkish way so, perhaps staying on the ship would be your better choice.

Sirince is a lovely village not far from Kusadasi where they make wine. Charming place for lunch and a stroll. No shopping, no ruins.

I agree with JER about Sirince. You might also enjoy a stroll around Selcuk.

Thanks - I think we'll go to the smaller towns like you suggested.
