Cruise tour suggestions in Mykonos, Corfu, Santorini, Kusadasi, Dubrovnik

we are taking a cruise (yes, I know that is not the best way to see a country, but this is what we are doing).
Our stops are Dubrovnik, Mykonos, Santorini, Kusadasi (Ephesus), Corfu.
I would appreciate suggestions of tour companies or should we just ask a taxi driver for a tour. What do you recommend seeing? Should we take ship's tours? In which places should we take ship's tours and which do on our own? There are 3 of us.

ship's times in each city:
Dubrovnik 10:30 - 6:30
Mykonos 7 AM - 5 PM (Tender)
Kusadasi 7 AM - 6 PM
Santorini 7 AM - 5 PM (Tender)
Corfu 1 - 8:30 PM.

Thank you.

Elinda - The truth is you don't really need tours in any of these spots, especially if this is a first time for you. I'm a tour consultant and I love money but I also live part of the year on Santorini and just returned from all of these spots.

In Dubrovnik a shuttle bus will take you to the walled city and you can enjoy it on your own.
In Kusadasi - If you want to go out to see Ephesus, you can negotiate with any one of hundreds of cab drivers and the price will be excellent - BUT , when you get back to town make sure you check out the bazaar - the best shopping on your entire trip.
Mykonos - shuttle bus into town and enjoy - If you want - A four wheeler can be rented very cheaply and you can go out to Paradise Beach or around the Island.
Santorini - Up the cable car and enjoy Fira town - local bus over to Oia is easy.
Corfu - walk along the port into the oldtown section with it's Cafes, shops, and sights. If you want to explore the Island that would require a taxi or rental car.
Basically; however, this itinerary does not require a guy like me - explore on your own, at your own pace, and enjoy the heck out of it.

I would agree with Greg. We returned just two weeks ago and visited some of the places you listed. There are guides to be had at the gates too if you think you'll miss that infomration by not going with an organized tour. I have no advice on how to choose one, we just wandered on our own.

Having done both I tend to stick with the cruise companies tours as I know they will look after me and get me back to the ship on time.
Dubrovnik you can just walk around and enjoy as this is the best way to see the city. Very walk friendly.
In Santorini the same just wander and enjoy the food. We had coffee way up top over looking our ship the best coffee we ever had. But I think the view was what we really tasted. And lunch beside the cable car it was wonderful. I find that many of the excursions are only 4hrs in these ports so you have time to wander. Look at them and find something you wouldn't do at home.

We decided on a ship excursion primarily because the wait for a tender from the ship to Santorini was more than one hour for those who were not on ship excursions. Then the wait to go up on the cable car was 2-3 hours as there were 3 large ships in town that day. Our excursion took us to Oia (where we did not have enough time, but that is the problem with a ship excursion), then to a winery -- where we saw spectacular views of the islands, then to Thira (Fira) which we toured on our own -- visiting the museum of ancient Thira -- which had artifacts from Akritori (which was closed) and Ancient Thira. We visited a church, had lunch in town, wandered in stores and took the cable car down to the dock where we caught a tender back to our ship. We were advised to wait until after 2 (when the other two ships were leaving)to take the cable car down -- there was no wait at that time. One of the passengers in our cable car walked up along side the donkeys -- which she described as "scary" but she did not wish to wait 2-3 hours for the cable car to Fira (Thira). It was quite hot.

We plan to return to Santorini in the future to spend more time than the cruise alloted, but were glad that we took the ship excursion which left the ship at 7 AM and allowed us ample free time in Fira (11 AM - 4 PM).

If you visit Mykonos you should definitely visit the sacred island of Delos as well! There are daily routes to Delos and Rinia islands (except Monday) because the archaelogical site is closed. Routes are available from Mykonos but also from other Cycladic Islands (Tinos and Naxos). From the old port and in particular from the southern pier that exists after the building of the Municipality of Mykonos departing for the following vessels are departing for delos. For more information please visit http://www.mykonosgold.com and http://www.mykonosgold.com/mykonos/delos-rinia.htm

thank you for the suggestions; we did visit Delos, which we enjoyed very much.
we found it impossible to get a taxi at the taxi stand in Mykonos; we waited in line for 45 minutes, then gave up.
