We are getting a greece cruise from Trieste in July and are trying to decide the best way to get to and from the cruise area. Should we stay overnight at a hotel in Venice or in Trieste and how easy is it to get to the cruise ship docks?

The cruise ship docks are within walking distance from the Trieste train station. There are some nice, inexpensive hotels near the station in Trieste. I would stay overnight in Trieste. (The Alabarda is a very nice small hotel.)
We were just there for a ferry to Albania in March.

Just returned from a cruise leaving out of Trieste and it was GREAT. We were at the Jolly Hotel which was 4-5 blocks from the cruise port -- an easy walk until the wheels fell off of my husbands carry-on!
Trieste was a surprise -- beautiful architecture, nice restaurants and friendly people. We stayed one night in Trieste and wish we had stayed more. Almost no "tourist" shops which was a nice change from Venice. We got up early Sunday morning and took the local bus out to Miramare Castle and gardens. Plenty of time to tour it and get to the ship by 3pm.
Zampolli's was the best gelatto we had anywhere on our trip -- an easy walk from the hotel.
