My husband and I are researching beaches in Croatia for late June/earlyJuly. We have already been to Dubrovnik so we are looking for beaches near Zadar or Split as I would like to take a side trip to Korcula since my ancestors are from there. Can anyone suggest a nice sandy romantic beach that isn't full of drunk folk? I've heard Hvar Island is nice as long as you aren't in Hvar Town which is the party place. Any others? Would consider beaches in Istria as long as they are dynamite. (After the beach we plan to see Lake Plitvice, Zagreb, Ljubliana, and Lake Bled).

You can rent a boat from Korcula to a variety of tiny islands nearby. You can either rent the boat yourself, which is great for finding secluded swimming spots, or use one of the many boat taxies. There are not many sand beaches in Croatia (i've seen the Croatian coast tip-to-tip) but you will not find clearer waters anywhere else. In the Istria region the swimming is good but not as spectacular as it is in Dalmatia. Because you will be going in late June / early July, you may want to consider sticking to Dalmatia as the sea will be warmer.
