Croatia Questions

Greetings, We start our trip to Slovenia and Croatia in less than 30 days. Have a couple of questions: 1. Dropping off car at Split Airport then taking Krilo catamaran to Korcula the next day. Would it be better to stay overnight in Trogir or Split? Looks like Trogir is closer to airport? Any hotel/sobe recommendations. 2. Would it be advisable to purchase catamaran tickets in advance or get them the day of our trip? We will be in Split on 26/27 September. Looking forward to this trip. Thank you for any comments. Dave, Trogir is only 6 km from the airport; Split is 20 km from the airport. Trogir is also a small, ancient town; Split is a busy, modern, congested city with one ancient area of interest to tourists. I don't know where you plan to connect with the catamaran but I know both Split and the airport are possible connection points. My suggestion would be to stay in Trogir and do a day trip to Split. Verify that you can connect with the catamaran at the airport (schedules change in the fall). Drop the car and make the connection in one stop at the airport. There are many possible hotels and b&b's in Trogir and the island connected to it by bridge.

We actually enjoyed Trogir more than Split - but tastes vary. In Trogir, we stayed in Apartments Stefalo - nice, quiet, in the old town. You could also stay in Split just as easily, then huff it on foot to the ferry Don't know about the need for advance tickets (we were there in May) but in late September I'd be surprised if you needed to get them very far in advance. No bad choices here. It's all good. Korcula was great.

I'd suggest staying in the old town in Split, from where you can easily walk to the catamaran pier. Base Rooms (aka Sobe Base) within the palace walls is nice, and it should be peaceful on a Wednesday night (can be very noisy until midnight on Friday and Saturday when teenagers congregate on the steps of the adjacent Jupiter's Temple). If you stay in Split, Fife is a great place for a delicious inexpensive meal. I traveled to Hvar by catamaran in late September a few years ago and bought my ticket a day in advance. Don't believe the catamarans were sold out that time of year, but why take the chance when it's so easy to buy tickets the day before. There's a ticket kiosk just off the Riva on the street to the bus and train stations (don't recall kiosk hours).

Thank you all for your comments. Staying in Split sounds like a better choice since we could get our tickets at least a day in advance and stay close to the dock. Thanks again. Happy travels to all of you. Dave and Cathy
