Croatia for 10 days

My husband and I will have 10 or so days at the beginning of June and with a car to be in Croatia. We just want to explore the beauty of this area started in the north and then end up on a ferry from Dubrovnik to Bari. We are interested in gorgeous vistas and beaches ,not so much crowds and party scenes. We would locate ourselves somewhere for a number of days and then move on to another area We would love to hear about favorite spots and any advice anyone might have to share. Thanks!

Good news and bad news. You will find plenty of gorgeous vistas and coastline (beaches? not gorgeous beaches as most Americans envision them, but lovely coastlines and painfully cute old seaside towns & cities). You will also find plenty of crowds and party scenes. Unfortunately, most of the crowds and party scenes occur in places with those gorgeous vistas and coastlines. That's not to say that every pretty place will be completely mobbed with drunken partiers, but many of them will. The earlier in June you go, the fewer crowds you will have to fight. Many of the popular places will be fairly quiet (and delightful) in May, but things start to get busy in June (June 1 is the beginning of "high season" and things can change dramatically). Dubrovnik will be crowded whenever you go.

Favorite places: Split (especially Marjan Hill which overlooks the city) and Diocletian Palace, Trogir (very close to Split), island of Brac & Bol beach (via ferry from Split), island of Korcula. Advice: Split seems to be a better jumping point for ferries to other islands. Also, if you have the chance or interest in taking a side trip from Dubrovnik, go and see Mostar in Bosnia-Hercegovina.

Plitvice Lakes should be considered if you have 10 days in Croatia. Consider Rovinj in the north if you are up that far. Make sure to leave enough time for the Dubrovnik area. Try out Sv. Jakov beach in Dubrovnik...it is where locals go so therefore less busy.
