Croatia-Dubrovnik-Accommodations-Itinerary.

HELP!! Me an 3 friends (ages 27-30) will be spending a week in Croatia this August. We want to stay in Dubrovinik, and we are not sure where to go outside of Dubrovinik, (Hvar?) before returning back to Dubrovinik to fly home.

Can anyone recommend a great place to stay that would be clean, safe and moderately priced? There are 4 of us, so one 2 bdr would be great, otherwise we'll get 2 rooms.

Thanks!

just returned from my trip on wednesday. was in dubrovnik from 5/18 to 5/23. loved it. i strongly suggest you look for "sobe" instead of traditional hotel. i stayed inside the old town walls and liked that. i found my place on a site called "dubronik online" or something. It was Villa Mirta. Location was perfect. Owner friendly. Spacious "room" which included double bed and sofa, table/chairs, kitchen area with sink/stove/oven/refrigerator and private bath. cost was 55 euro/night. there were a total of 4 or 5 apartments/rooms here so maybe you and your friends could get 2 of them. the guy who runs it is named Dubravko and I found him friendly and helpful. i would definitely stay again.
suggestions for what to do outside of dubrovnik: well its a good base for day trips. hvar might be too far for day trip but maybe you go up for 2-3 days then return for your flight. but other islands with easy access from Dub are Lokrum (nothing there really but it's pretty and peaceful and takes about 5 min on ferry) or Lopud island which is part of Elafite (sp?) chain and also easy to access. beautiful sandy beach which is rare in this area. my fave day trip though was to Montenegro. Bay of Kotor, Pestast (sp?), Budva. Can't wait to return and spend more time. Could also go to Mostar in Bosnia which is supposed to be unforgettable. I didn't make it there but heard many good things.
if you want more info for villa mirta, let me know and i can send you his email address. on that website i mentioned, there was pics of the place too.

We stayed at Apartment Dijana, about a 10 min. walk from the Ploce gate, with spectacular views of Old Town. I believe Dijana has 2 apartments and 2 rooms to rent. The Apartments are for 2 people, and are more like a large room, with a kitchen area and a sofa. She was a wonderful hostess and I highly recommend her place.

We were in dubrovnik in april and stayed at apartment sunshine just a 5 min walk from the pile gate.THere were 130 steps leading up to the road of the apt. but all of dubrovnik seemed to have steps! I found it on this website www.dubrovnik-private-accommodation.com and then look for AP-18. This is a 2 br with full kitchen and very spacious. the views are wonderful and it's very quiet.we got it for 60E per night.
