Cost of One Metro Ride in City of Athens

How much does one ride on the metro in Athens cost?

Charlene, hi

The prices vary slightly but a basic ticket is 0.80 euros. This doesn't cover the trip to the airport though.

If you think you're going to be doing much hopping on and off it's worth getting a 3 euro day ticket. This covers all journeys in a 24 hour period - you validate it in a machine when you first use it - on bus, metro and the new tram.

Cheers
Alan

Alan, do you know how much a ticket from the airport is? It's good to hear from you again. We leave on Monday. :) Thanks for ALL your help.

A single ticket is 6 euro, 10 euro for 2. But be advised that the Airport Metro was scheduled to close for some construction for several months starting July 1. I don't know if the actually closed on the 1st since they announced this closure with at least two other earlier dates so far but never closed. But even if it does close you can get into Athens on the Airport Express Bus (#95) which leaves the airport every half-hour 24/7 for 3.2 euro each. The last stop is Syntagma Square, smack dab in the middle of town. You can also take the Suburban Railway train to the Larissa Station which has it's own Metro station as well, one stop from Omonia Square, so once you get there you can take one of the inner city Metros to different parts of the city. I don't know the price of the Airport Suburban Railway train ticket but I expect it will be something like the Metro.

Thank-you, Lee! I am printing off this page. Can you give me directions to go from Syntagma Square to 5 Patession and 9 Omonia Square? There is a McDonalds and an arcade where we enter to go to the travel agency that we need to stop at first.

When you're at Syntagma Square go into the Metro Station there and take the Red Line Metro in the direction of "Ag. Antonios," but only 2 stops to the "Omonia Square" Metro Station. Look at this map:

As you exit the Omonia Station with Athinas Street in front of you Patission Street will be on your left. As you exit the Omonia Station with Tritis Septemvriou Street in front of you Patission Street will be on your right. I'm sure McD's won't be hard to find!

Good Luck and have a great time!
