Cost of a private driver from Dubrovnik to Split Croatia

Does anyone know what teh cost of a private for hire car would cost from Dubrovnik to Split. I understand the bus trip is about 4 hrs and the ferry is about 8-9 hrs. I though a private car would be faster. Gene

The bus runs on that route. It will cost you half as much as hiring a car. Unless you are in a big hurry take it.

Hi Gene, In July 2007, the bus from Dubrovnik to Split was 105 kuna pp one way = about $18.50 USD for a 4.5 hour trip. It might be a bit faster now since they were upgrading the road. The bus was comfortable and we had good visibility of the vistas. I doubt if a private driver would be cheaper (even for 4). It may be minimally faster, but you may find the dialogue with a driver more informative.

Thank you for your reply. Did you travel to Mostar, Rick Steves says it's well worth it. Thank you Gene

We took a "tour bus" (first time for us doing this) to Mostar from Dubrovnik and actually were pleasantly surprised. The dialogue on the road up was interesting and informative and the local guide in Mostar was great. We had more free time to explore on our own than we thought we would. My photos of Mostar are among my favourites, probably because they portray a rather unique area--unlike anywhere else I've been so far! With four of you, you might want to investigate getting a private driver.

Thanks again for the information, it sounds excellent, we may hire the driver that Rick suggests.

Dubrovnik to Split is really too far for a day trip. A private car is only very marginally quicker than the bus, so you'll be on the road roundtrip for at least 8 hours, assuming no delays and minimal bathroom stops. That doesn't leave much time for touring. I'd skip it if you can't do an overnight. Mostar or Kotor would be better as daytrips from Dubrovnik.

Thanks for your reply. I think we'd be better off spending at least one night there. WE were going to rent a place in Dubrovnik for a week and take day trips. I hate to miss Split they say it's excellent.

Hello Gene,

We just travelled to Split and Dubronvik last month. We took the bus from Split and a bus leaves about every 30 minutes and the cost was about 20 bucks. There is only one road to Dubronvik therefore, private car would not be a whole lot cheaper. Staying a couple days in Dubronvik is highly recommend since it's an amazing city. Split too, is impressive and worth a day. I also highly recommend a side trip to Solona. That anicent city was the highlight of my trip to Split. Ive rambled. Have a great time.

Thanks for the info. I think you've convinced me to take the bus to Split and forget the private driver. I'm going to read about Solano you mentioned. Thanks again Gene

Hello!!! Im interested as well in finding a driver to drive us from Dubrovnik fro Split. I m landing in Dubrovnik late at night and early next morning I need to be in Split for a wedding, so having a driver would make things much easier. Can anyone guide me how to find one? Thank you!

eleni-mastoras, you probably want to post a new question in the Croatia forum. This thread is 6 years old.
