We are spending a few days on Santorini taking the ferry to/from Piraes. What is the best way to get from the ferry dock in the South to the Northern village of Oia where we have hotel reservations? Can you make reservations or just wing it? Santorini dates from 9/11/2012 & 9/13/2012.
You can wing it. Public buses meet every ferry and you can pay the driver. The bus will take you to Fira, where you take another bus to Oia. Bus is by far the cheapest option. There are also taxis & you can book a shared shuttle if you want. http://www.santorinitransfer.com/santorini-taxi-rates.html
Thanks, that is probably what we will do. It will not be cost-justifiable for the two of us, I think, to take a taxi or reserve a shuttle. I heard that one has to hustle off the ferry to get the bus. Apparently they don't hang around long to pick up stragglers.
The bus doesn't leave until it's full. Sometimes there are 2 buses. The fare is €2.2 to Fira where you will catch the next bus to Oia for €1.6. The two shuttle van services are A2B Transfers and Santorini Transfer.
Thanks for that info as well. Takes another worry off my mind.
My daughter and I were just there in June and used the bus to get up and down the island. It runs frequently and was dependable!
