Take a walk through the restored Old Town. If nobody told you, you'd never realized it was all rebuilt.

I lived in Warsaw for a year and I have seen more beautiful cities...for example, Krakow, Wroclaw, Torun..just to name a few. The whole city is beautiful in my opinion. If you want to visit Warsaw, Old Town would be the place to go, but only for a day. :o)

I hope this helps!

In its defense, I found Warsaw to be far nicer than I expected. Having previously seen some of the nastier cities of the former Iron Curtain (Belgrade, Tirana, Vukovar, and, in my opinion, Europe's worst capital, Skopje), my expectations for Warsaw were low. Especially so knowing that it was largely rebuilt during the communist era... but surprisingly, I found it clean, well maintained, and in certain areas, quite beautiful even. Not as gorgeous as Krakow, but definitely an under-rated destination. Unfortunately, I wasn't there long enough to visit much more than the Royal Way, Chopin museum and the Old Town. I could have used two or more additional days to explore. Enjoy your trip and enjoy the perogies!

Belgrade, Tirana, Vukovar, Skopje? Are you really Tom from Washington or nudge nudge wink wink Tom from Langley:)
Speaking of Python, Michael Palin's latest travel series, "New Europe" goes to all these places and more. It ran on the BBC last month and is available
on a region 2 DVD via the Amazon.com UK site. Sometime next year a US network will probably air it.
I couldn't wait and purchased it via Amazon and highly recommend it!

Thanks everyone. Seems visiting Old Town will kill a bit of our ten-hour layover. Thanks for suggestions.
