Hello! We spent a whole summer in Vienna and went many times to Da Buda. If you want to dress more like Europeans, many women do not wear shorts, but pants, skirts or capris. The women are VERY fashionable, and wear the trendy styles of the day. As for the summer footwear, the trends come and go each year, and they are different that American styles for sure, so you can buy a pair when you are hear, but they are VERY expensive. I wore skirts or light pants mostly, but it was cold when we were there most of June last year, not above 65 and rainy. Unusual for that time of year there. I would suggest just comfortable shoes for you. I wore a pair of black sandals (Bjorn) or shoes (Josef Siebel). The gladiator sandal was the thang when we were there, but I was told the fashion will not be repeated for 2 summers, a fashion no no here: ). I hope this helped. In general, EU women blow me away with how put together they always are, and can make wearing a scarf with a teeshirt look so good: ). Be yourself and let that shine through whatever you wear and I hope you enjoy your beautiful experience traveling!

Footwear - thick soles. Uneven surfaces, like cobblestones, can be painful if your soles aren't thick enough. It's good to have a second pair of shoes/sandals just to give your feet a change - and if it rains, to be able to put on dry shoes for your next outing.

I was in both cities last June and worn my usual summer wardrobe of linen pants and short sleeved shirts with light outer layers when needed (it was cool and I usually needed the layer). For shoes, I had fairly fashionable sandals, Born Mary Jane style walking shoes and city sneakers. I don't think I looked like a native, but I never felt inappropriately dressed. If you are trying to blend in I wouldn't wear walking shorts in the city, but capris would probably be okay.
