Christmas in Greece

We are considering Christmas in Athens or Santorini or Rhodes. What is it like in Athens or the Islands. Any recommendations?

Jeanne We often spend Christmas in Athens. It's generally lively with a lot going on. Greeks are increasingly celebrating Christmas but the holiday there runs through to New Year so it isn't unusual to see Santa Claus around after the 25th. Weather can be very changeable. We've had days when it is warm enough to sit out at lunchtime but then days when it snowed. (Snow though is unusual for Greece.) Alan

Wouldn't recommend most of the islands since winter in general is pretty dead and a lot of places close down. Athens or Thessaloniki would be good though.
