Please help. Am looking for cheap accomodations in central Prague. Hostels or pensions fine. Thank you!
Central Prague ( Praha 1 and Praha 2 ) and cheap accommodation are not really two things that go together.
What is your budget ?
You may find it more economic to stay in the suburbs and take the tram into the city center. Prague is becoming very expensive these days.
Hi Tracy.
We stayed at a place called The Castle Steps, which was great. Our room had a balcony overlooking a park. We shared a bathroom and there was a kitchen. The place was very clean and the staff (mostly young native English speakers) was incredibly helpful with restaurant tips and other advice.

Have a good trip,

Many people fear doing this, but we actually got an apartment in the heart of the old city by going with a woman we met at the train station. We had two ENORMOUS bedrooms, private bath with washer/dryer and paid less than $50 a night!
Hey Tracy, Like Marie, we got an apartment. It was about 800 sq ft and had a kitchen and two bathrooms. One bedroom and two twin beds in the living room. It worked for us because we were a group of 4, and split up it was cheaper than a hotel room. PLUS, we were in the center of the city. We walked to ALL the sights. We never took a tram anywhere. The only time we took a taxi was when we were going to and from the train station with our luggage... The agency we arranged the apartment through was excellent. We were able to pay for transportation to and from the train station and they also offer other services...

You might check out globalfreeloaders.com - there are a lot of listings for spare rooms in Prague, and they're free. Good luck!
Tracy- I am staying in, and sending this email from, the "Downtown Hotel" in Prague right now. I booked it through Hosteling Interational. It is very central. Less than a ten minute walk to Old Town Market, Welensca [sp] square, the Charles Bridge etc.
It cost me 400Kc, about $20 a night.....A great place too.
I just went to globalfreeloaders.com, and it required me to put in what type of room I'M willing to offer. Do you have to list accommodations in your OWN home to use this service? I'm not comfortable with that... Maybe I'm missing something?
Hi Tracy, my daughter & I just got back from Prauge; we stayed at Hotel Guesthouse Merlin; i found it at hotelsprague.cz; it's near the "Dancing Houses" & Charles Square; we had a double with a private bath; it was 1,800 CZK per night;about $72.US; you have to pay cash but it's easy to walk along the river to the old part of town, only 10 minutes; have a great trip;
Thanks all. Just got back from my trip to Prague. It was amazing. Although WAY more tourists there than I anticipated in Oct.
In any case, I stayed at Hostel Rosemary. It was a young group there but I enjoyed the company and it was quite clean and cheap.
Thanks again.
