Hi! My boyfriend and I are heading to europe this july. we are on a budget (both grad students) but would prefer not to sleep in dorm-style hostel rooms. Bathroom down the hall is totally OK though, as are weird and wonderful old-fashioned hotels or self-catering apartments. Does anybody have any tips for places to stay in Prague, Vienna and Ljubjana? We were thinking of budgeting 50-60 euros a night. . .
In Prague it's totally do-able at that price. Search with www.kayak.com and you will find some very nice places in the city center for that price. The hotels in Prague are having a bit of a difficult time with the down economy. They are slashing prices.
This hostel in Ljubljana is funky and seemed clean and well-run--we used their laundry room when we stayed in Ljubljana. It's in a great location between the train station and downtown and the price is right! You can see on Trip Advisor that the reviews are mixed.

Someone posted this site for a hostel in Prague:

I have heard that many hotels in Prague have deep discounts this summer - we are staying at the Cloister Inn in Prague in June and got a very good rate and it's centrally located - maybe not 60 euros a night but worth a try. More importantly I responded because it's not that often i run across another Bronwen! Have a great trip.
