Cesky Krumlov - One night or two?

Hello, My wife and I (late-twenties) are spending 5 weeks in Europe in the Spring, and we had planned to spend a night in Cesky Krumlov, in between visits to Prague and Vienna. As it turns out, this is the exact mid-point of our trip. As our trip is mainly city-centric, I was thinking this might be a nice place to spend two relaxing nights and do some outdoor activities (rent a raft, etc), have a picnic, stroll around and have leisurely drinks in cafes and pubs to recharge the battery before heading back to city life. Does this seem like a good idea here, or is it the kind of place where one night is more than enough?

We did this in 2010. If you were just wanting to see the sights, one night would be fine. There's only about 8 hours worth of sight-seeing to do in town. But it's a great place to relax. If the weather is good, rafting is lots of fun. We did the 3-hour float down the Vltava and were picked up by the raft-rental company. Very pleasant, with a couple of fun man-made "chutes" you pass through to avoid the rocks. It's exactly the type of activity that would help you decompress after lots of time in cities. FYI there are some great casual and quasi-authentic places to eat there along the river - at least great in terms of tasty, meaty, filling dishes for a very modest price. We found CK to be a bargain. We got there from Prague via the "Student Agency" bus - which was also very nice and a great bargain.

I stayed 2 nights last summer and could have spent one more as it was near the end of a hectic trip. It is a great size town to relax and wander. Also, very beautiful town with lots of great food.

We were there last May for two nights. I would say you definitely want two nights. Otherwise you only get half a day, counting transit time. It's a fun town, give yourself a chance to relax there.

Excellent. Five weeks. You'll need to find a few other non city-centric things to do then. I agree with the other posters. Yes, you can see the sights in one day, but give it two, do some rafting, etc. The very fact that you won't have to run around with your museum/fabulous site 'bucket list' will make it more relaxing. (The Baroque Theater in the castle complex is really worth seeing though.) Also don't forget that places like Rothenburg Germany and Cesky Krumlov are really big with day-trippers, so they are the most romantic, evocative, and enjoyable early in the day and from early evening on. Staying there two nights is a great idea Have a great trip. Ross in Denver
