I want to make a room res but your book says to make it directly with the book to get a 10% discount. Do I do that thru this site or just contact the hotel directly and mention this book? Thanks, Ken
I don't know which hotel you are thinking of but look at the hotel Dvorak and get a price for the room that has the balcony that faces the Castle. When we stayed there i don't think we paid much more than 100US but that was a few years ago.
First, Rick Steves himself does not post on this board. We area all "members of the traveling public," just like yourself. Second, yes, if his book says that you can book direct and get a discount, that means Rick has negotiated this himself with the hotel. You call, e-mail, or fax the hotel yourself (e-mail is by far the easiest most of the time), and mention that you found the hotel in Rick Steves book. If the reply you receive doesn't mention the discount, ask again (I've never had to ask twice). The reason hotels are willing to offer discounts it that when you book direct, they get all the money; if you use a middleman (like booking.com or Orbitz), they have to give a commission. If the wording is something like "10% discount when you show this book," be prepared to bring the book with you and show it when you pay. Otherwise, don't worry - the rate you are offered will reflect the discount.
Just e-mail the place directly and say recommended by Rick Steves. We were there 3 years ago and had no problem with accomodations or communication by e-mail.It is a wonderful place . Enjoy your trip! Dan
