Central Europe best itinerary?

I am travelling to the following cities in July and I would like to hear from people who have travelled these routes, what the easiest sequence to visit them would be. I am going to Munich, Salzburg, Prague, Vienna, Berlin, Krakow, and Warsaw. I would like to hear opinions on easiest routes to these cities, i.e. is it best to go Berlin, Prague, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, Krakow, Warsaw; or Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, Krakow, Prague... etc? I am open to flights, trains, busses, car between cities. Just hoping to hear shortest/easiest routes.

Do you have a particular starting point that you are flying into? Also are you doing a simple Round Trip or the plane tickets or planning on an Open jaw ticket.

Looking at the map the following look like logical options:
MUC-Salzburg-VIE-PRG-Berlin-WAW-KRK or
MUC-Salzburg-VIE-PRG-KRK-WAW-Berlin

I think MUC-Salzburg is just about 2 hrs on a train and between Salzburg-VIE it is about 4 hrs (others will correct this if I have it wrong). Besides this, KRK-WAW is easy on the train - just 2 - 2.5 hrs and lots of trains between the cities.

Not sure of the other distances, but check out the Rick Steves map which will give you some indication. Also, check out www.bahn.de for train schedules and times.

This is all easy on trains. Planes leave you miles from city centers and are much more time-consuming than trains (despite faster travel time). If you are starting in Berlin, then Munich is your best second city, then Salzburg and Vienna. Salz is an easy day trip from Munich and is cheaply reachable using the Bayern Ticket. You would train next to Prague and do Krakow before Warsaw. You can fly home from Warsaw but there are more options (we think) from Berlin, which is a longish train ride away.

I completely agree with trains are best. I did Berlin, Krakow, Prague, and Vienna all via train. Check into the overnight trains as they will save you time.

Kristina,

Paul n Sara have pretty much defined the issues...only I would put it differently. I would suggest that you either start with Berlin and go to Warsaw, Krakow, Prague, Salzburg, Vienna and fly out of Munich or reverse the order. Go open jaw...don't waste time returning to your starting point.
