Hi Drea! Saw both your posts. Thats the question, you need to find either: A car rental company in Italy (Venice or Trieste) that will allow you into Slovenia\Croatia and drop off back in Italy (I think Hertz allow that) or hire a car in Slovenia (Portoroz is the nearest location, else you have to go to Ljubljana, there are no major rental places in Nova Gorica or Postojna) see www.sloveniaforyou.com/CarRental.htm for a list of places, but again, they must allow into Croatia and back (I think this should be ok) else hire a car in each country and use public transport. Cheers

I just reserved a car on EconomnyCarRentals.com for our
Croatia/Slovenia trip. They are a large company, and I have read good reviews of them, but this my first reservation with them. They farm out their business to various rental companies. I thought their prices were very good. Good luck!

I booked with economycarrentals.com for the third time for our upcoming trip to Croatia and Slovenia in May. You'll see on their website what the options are for places to pick up and drop off the car and then you decide what works for you. For this trip we are picking up in Rovinj, touring Istria, Slovenia and then back into Croatia with our drop off at Split. Their rates are very reasonable, and I've always been happy with the companies they book you through.

I rented in Venice and went to the areas you are traveling... I also think it was Hertz, but you just need to doublecheck with whoever you rent from and be sure they know where you are traveling. I think we dropped our car in Rome, and because it was the same country there was not a huge drop fee.

Last summer, we rented in Vienna, went to Budapest, Croatia, Slovenia, and back to Austria. There might have been a small surcharge, but I don't think so. The problems would have been Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovenia. However, you just need to be up front with the car company. You also need to buy the autobahn voucher in each country.
