has anyone rented a car in rijeka? We will arrive by train from Ljubljana and want to pick up car in rijeka. what company do you recommend? Are there offices at train station for rental companies or do we need to get to city center to get the car?

Than you for your response.
After speaking with RS consultant they suggested we go to Rijeka to pick up Croatian rental car as we will drop it off in Split and did not want to get a Slovenian rental in Ljubljana and get charged drop off fees in another country. Thanks for the website, I will check it out. Have you rented in Rijeka before? I know its not a tourist destination but we will just get car and travel on to Rovinj.

Jeff, Rijeka isn't a very common destination for RS travelers, so you may not get much response. I recommend that you do some research online. There's a Croatia car rental website that aggregates all the rental agencies. Here's the link for Rijeka: http://croatia.rentalcargroup.com/Rijeka_City.htm . There's a "contact" link on the website; you could ask them about picking up at airport vs downtown. I think the train station is a little ways from downtown in Rijeka, so it may be just as easy to get from the train station to the airport as to downtown. Plus, we have found rentals are often less expensive if picked up and dropped off at airports. Another option is to contact a US car rental company listed on this site (i.e. Hertz) and ask them your questions. The answers would likely apply to any of the rental companies. Good luck!

Sorry, no, I haven't rented a car in Rijeka. We arrived via ferry from Split and took the bus to Trieste.
