I will be needing to rent a car from Athens for a week and return it back to Athens. Any advice about renting a car in Athens. I am using the car to drive outside Athens I am not crazy enough to keep a car in Athens. I am staying Tempi Hotel in central Athens. Is it best to find an office in town or go out to the airport?

Because Athens is such a confusing city of one-way streets, no parking and crazy drivers, it's definitely easier just to take the Metro or Airport Express Bus from central Athens out to the airport. Then when you leave the airport you'll be on the National Highway in minutes to wherever it is you plan to go. When you return just do it all in reverse.

The airport does make a lot of sense and you'll avoid all of the central Athens traffic. The other option is Swift Car Rental. Swift is a local firm with an office right downtown and they will pick you up at your hotel, drive you to their office and sometimes will even deliver the car outside of central Athens. I used Swift and they were great but I did have to drive out of central Athens and back. A little hair-raising but their office is right off a main avenue near the expressway so it wasn't all that bad.
