I read that you can go from Kosice Slovakia to Budapest. Has anyone done this? Is there another town in east Slovakia that would be easier to get to Budapest? Any one have suggestions about how to get from any town in the eastern half of Slovakia and go to Budapest? It would be crazy to go across the country and then backtrack to Bratislava.
Thanks!
There are direct trains from Budapest to Kosice. While I didn't do the whole route on the train because I took the bus from Budapest to Eger and overnighted there and the following day took the train to Kosice. Please note that Eger is not on the main line so I had to change trains in Fuzebony? to get to Kosice. However, there are direct trains that do this run in about 3 - 4 hours. Check out the Deutsche Bahn website for all the detailed schedules.
There are trains that go direct from Kosice to Budapest. I think there are two or three direct trains a day and many more that have between one and six stops/changes. elvira.hu is the Hungarian train site. It's sometimes a pain to switch it to English, but is easy enough to figure out in Hungarian. It does list all train times domestically, as well as those going in and out of the country. It can sometimes paint a more accurate picture than Bahn.de.
