We are arriving in Zagreb April 28. We plan to take a bus to Plitvice Lake N.P on Sunday, April 29, returning to Zagreb April 30. In Rick's travel guide, it says the main bus station in Zagreb is closed Sat. and Sun. How can we get tickets? Also in returning from the N.P., do we buy a return ticket on the same bus company or how can we purchase the return if there is no bus station at the park? If this doesn't work and we have to rent a car for the 2 days, what are good (trustworthy) car rental companies in Zagreb?

We rented a car in Zagreb,drove to Plitvice,spent the night and returned the car the next afternoon after touring the park. A one day rental. We rented from Active Rent a Car. They have offices throughout Croatia. They offered to pick us up at the train station at not cost and take us to their office. Otherwise it is about a 15-20 euro trip. Getting to the expressway for Plitvice was easy. We turned right out of their parking area, and within 5km we were on the expressway. We had GPS but the road is well marked 2 hours later we were at the park. We stayed at Hotel Jezero and the next morning walked right into the park. After retuning the car Frane the manger gave us a ride to the train station. I gave him 15 euros this time but he did not ask to be compensated.
