Would anyone know a cheap and reliable way of getting from Krakow town centre to the Auschwitz museums and then from there to Katowice airport? I searched the net and there seems to be buses available but most of is in Polish.

Easiest way is to use Krakow as your hub. From Krakow, take a bus to and from Auschwitz (buses run all day). The Krakow rail and bus station sit right next to each other. Once you return to Krakow, you can catch a short train ride to Katowice, although I'm not sure how to reach the airport from there. Polish rail is much cheaper than its western counterparts, so this is probably the least expensive option.
From Krakow to Auschwitz, the cheapest/easiest method is the bus. There are about 20 buses a day that go direct to the camps. The bus station in Krakow is right next to the main train station. From Oswiecim (where the camps are located) there are direct trains to Katowice, from where you can catch shuttle buses or a taxi to the airport. The train station in Oswiecim is only a mile away from the camps.
